Pre-K Expansion

Expanding Pre-Kindergarten Programs Across Baltimore City

In Maryland, expansion of Pre-Kindergarten programs at no cost to all 3- and 4-year-olds from families whose earning place them at or below 300% of the federal poverty level (and a sliding scale for families earning between 300-600% of the federal poverty level) is a centerpiece of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future – the ambitious effort to address equity and improve outcomes for public school children across the state. The Fund’s Pre-K expansion programmatic efforts, in collaboration with Baltimore City Public Schools’ Office of Early Learning, early childhood program providers throughout Baltimore, the local philanthropic community, and other stakeholders, are predicated on a mixed delivery model that provides growth for both public school and private sector childcare options to best meet the needs of families.
